Tsonga looks to be on song in Marseille

Nick Kyrgios is yet to drop a set in his Marseille title defence but the quirky Australian could be outgunned by powerful Frenchman Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in their last-four clash.

Kyrgios has breezed past Malek Jaziri and Norbert Gombos in his opening two matches but those victories tell us little and Tsonga, spurred on by home support, is difficult to oppose.

The world number 14 is in unbelievable shape, highlighted by last week’s title romp in Rotterdam, where he beat Marin Cilic, Tomas Berdych and David Goffin en route to glory, and the demolition of compatriot Gilles Simon suggests he is in similar nick.

A semi-final defeat to surging star Alexander Zverev – the tournament winner – in Montpellier a fortnight ago was no disgrace and 8-11 looks more than a fair enough price to stop Kyrgios.

Elina Svitolina continued her excellent start to the season by booking her place in WTA Dubai final with a convincing 6-3 7-6 win over top seed Angelique Kerber, who struggled with a knee injury.

The improving Ukrainian will tussle for this afternoon’s title with Caroline Wozniacki and she looks determined to add to her Taiwan Open triumph two weeks ago.
