1 Murray’s quarter is there for the taking
Andy Murray dug deep to see off Fabio Fognini in round three and his route to a possible semi-final against the resurgent Rafael Nadal is easier than anticipated.

Three-time Grand Slam winner Stan Wawrinka and talented but quirky Nick Kyrgios were first-round casualties, with fellow seeds Lucas Pouille and Fernando Verdasco also falling early.

Jo-Wilfried Tsonga was the latest heavyweight to exit Murray’s quarter, leaving the Scot with an excellent chance of making the last four.

The world number one tackles Benoit Paire, who lost his only meeting with Murray, on Monday before a clash with Sam Querrey or Kevin Anderson. Although the giant duo are very effective on the turf, it’s worth remembering Murray is one of the best returners in the game.

Querrey has silenced Murray only once in eight meetings, with Anderson foiling the Briton just twice from eight attempts.

2 Women’s draw looks too tight to call
Serena Williams’ absence has produced one of the most competitive Wimbledons for some time, with a host of women in the reckoning to take the American’s crown.

Home hope Johanna Konta is 11-2 market leader, but Serena’s compatriot Coco Vandeweghe and her older sister Venus are fighting to take the title back to the US.

And 2016 French Open winner Garbine Muguruza, last year’s runner-up Angelique Kerber and world number two Simona Halep can’t be ruled out either.

3 Dimitrov may have regained his spark

The gifted Grigor Dimitrov was a Wimbledon semi-finalist three years ago and is yet to drop a set in his bid to repeat the feat.

The Bulgarian was 6-1 6-1 to the good when Dudi Sela was forced to retire and he may give the big guns something to think about.
