Julia Goerges has been enjoying some decent results this season but that may not save her against Alison Riske, who is due to step things up in the near future.

There were high hopes Stateside for Riske in her earlier career and while she has held her place in the top 100 pretty well, she is probably capable of a lot more.

Grass-court tennis has never been an issue but Riske is talented enough to be much more of a force on hardcourts, especially those in her USA homeland, than she has been.

Goerges’ reasonable form mean there is probably little point in staking high, but the chance to support Shenzhen runner-up Riske can be taken nonetheless.

Exciting Aussie Ashleigh Barty is a slight favourite to defeat Eugenie Bouchard after claiming her maiden main-tour title in Kuala Lumpur earlier this month.

But Bouchard started the campaign promisingly and is due another decent tournament run, so supporters of 20-year-old Barty should act with caution.

Recommendation
A Riske to beat J Goerges
