Andy Murray had to work hard to assume supremacy against Paolo Lorenzi in his latest Flushing Meadows outing, but it will be disappointing if the Scot cannot find a way to dominate Grigor Dimitrov today and progress to the quarter-finals.

Dimitrov is approaching his tennis with renewed vigour and interest after a fallow period since ending Murray’s title defence in the Wimbledon quarter-finals in 2014.

The Bulgarian won their latest meeting, in Miami in March 6-7 6-4 6-3, and that could mean that if there is any trace of fatigue in Murray’s game today the outsider has a chance of causing him trouble.
