Brave Briton Johanna Konta was last night a best-priced 5-2 to win Wimbledon after fighting back to edge out second seed Simona Halep to secure a place in the semi-finals.

Next up for the sixth seed, who defeated dual French Open finalist Halep 6-7 7-6 6-4 on Centre Court, is a date with Venus Williams, who ended the hopes of French Open champion Jelena Ostapenko 6-3 7-5.

Sky Bet make Konta 8-11 to reach the final with five-time All England Club singles heroine Williams an 11-10 shot.

Garbine Muguruza stormed into the last four with a comfortable triumph over Svetlana Kuznetsova and the Spaniard was last night the clear 15-8 favourite to win her second Grand Slam singles crown.

Former world number two Muguruza will tomorrow meet unseeded Slovak Magdalena Rybarikova, who came through 6-3 6-3 against 24th-seeded American Coco Vandeweghe in a match which started on Court One and ended under the Centre Court roof.

The roof being built on Wimbledon’s second biggest court is due to be completed in 2019.

Wimbledon women’s singles best outright prices:
7-4 G Muguruza, 5-2 J Konta, 7-2 V Williams, 7 M Rybarikova.
