Chinese players are not easily opposed in the Far East but Xinyun Han may find it tough going against in round two of the Malaysian Open.

Russian teenager Kalinskaya, who is ranked 173rd in the world, looks on top of her game in Kuala Lumpur. She defeated Ksenia Lykina and Dalila Jakupovic in the qualifying rounds and stepped up on that when ousting third seed Caroline Garcia 7-5 6-2 in her first main-draw outing.

Kalinskaya reached the last four of an ITF event in Altenkirchen earlier this month and the form she is showing in Malaysia looks a continuation of the promise she displayed in Germany. The Muscovite hits the ball well and should have a big future.

Han merits plenty of respect after seeing off Aleksandra Krunic 7-5 6-1 in her Kuala Lumpur opener but the Serb has become a bit of an underachiever after a promising start to her pro career.

There was a surprise in Dubai when Damir Dzumhur, who played well in defeat to Juan Martin del Potro in Delray Beach last week, ended the hopes of Stan Wawrinka when defeating the second seed 7-6 6-3.
