Simona Halep showed her battling qualities to defeat Madison Keys yesterday and she could be the one to side with when she takes on Angelique Kerber for a place in the Wimbledon semi-finals.

Halep, overlooked as a 28-1 chance at the beginning of the tournament, has been struggling with an Achilles problem but showed no ill-effects yesterday and the Romanian can now be considered a real threat in the women’s draw.
