Del Potro set to be tested by in-form Sugita in Estoril

Juan Martin del Potro makes his return to clay-court tennis when he takes on Yuichi Sugita in the ATP Estoril Open and the former US Open champ is no bigger than 1-7 to claim a victory in his first outing since the Miami Masters.

Delpo should get past Sugita but the Japanese player could prove tougher to dislodge than the prices suggest.

Sugita enjoyed a golden run to the quarter-finals of last week's Barcelona Open where, after coming through qualifying, he saw off Tommy Robredo, Richard Gasquet and Pablo Carreno Busta, defying long odds on each occasion.

He ran out of steam when comprehensively beaten by Dominic Thiem but Sugita can test Del Potro on the Argentinian's first clay outing of the season.

Delpo has played just five matches on clay since the 2013 Rome Masters and he struggled past Dustin Brown on his seasonal surface debut in Munich last year.

Sugita is up to career-high ranking of 73rd in the world and, while Del Potro should ultimately prove too classy, he should at least stay ahead of a 5.5-game handicap.

Barbora Strycova and Julia Goerges face off for the ninth time in the WTA Prague Open with their head-to-head record tied at 4-4 and it could be Goerges, rated the outsider by bookmakers, who represents the best value.

The German player lost to Strycova when they met in Biel last month but she boasts a winning record on clay and should be buoyed by her recent efforts on the surface in the Fed Cup World Group playoffs.

Goerges beat rising star Elina Svitolina in the opening singles rubber before sealing a German victory when she defeated Lesia Tsurenko in straight sets.

Strycova is a competent clay-courter but there is probably less between the pair than the odds suggest and she should be opposed.
