Fight preview

Experienced South African Moruti Mthalane travels to the UK for the first time in his career to make the fourth consecutive defence of his IBF world flyweight title against challenger Sunny Edwards, who is value to bag the belt.

This is without a doubt Edwards' biggest test to date, but in just his 16th professional bout he can showcase his slick skills to win over the judges against an ageing opponent.

Mthalane is 13 years older than Edwards and has clocked up plenty of mileage, he is into his second stint as a world champion and steps through the ropes for the 42nd time as a professional.

Although the 38-year-old showed no signs of slowing down when last in action, he hasn't fought since 2019 and the timing could be perfect for a fresh and hungry Edwards.

Mthalane stopped Japan's Akira Yaegashi in 2019 and has 26 knockouts in 41 bouts. Edwards will need to be at his best to compete, but the drop back to his preferred weight class and his speed will serve him well and he is a live outsider.
