Conor Benn takes a step up in class to take on former world champion Chris Algieri in Liverpool on Saturday night.
The Destroyer's high tempo and aggressive style has gained him plenty of support, but this is a real test.
At 37 years of age, Algieri probably isn't the force of old and working out what the New Yorker might have left to offer is the tricky aspect of this fight for punters.
The Fighting Collegian has lost just three times in a 28-fight career and that trio of losses all came against world champions. Amir Khan, Manny Pacquiao and Errol Spence Jnr are the three elite-level punchers who have beaten Algieri and the New Yorker won the WBO super-lightweight title when defeating Ruslan Provodnikov in 2014.
Of course, Algieri isn't at that level any more but his 2019 win against Tommy Coyle suggests that there is still something left in the tank. Coyle wasn't the most technically gifted boxer around but the Hull man was tough, game and good enough to expose a below-par Algieri.
The fact that the Fighting Collegian was able to get the job done inside eight rounds reads well although another two years have passed since that bout and Algieri has only had one more fight.
It is possible that Benn will move up to world level in the near future but it seems to have been taken for granted that the Destroyer is up to the job.
The Essex man has certainly created a good impression with his performances, but a win over Sebastian Formella is the only victory that is going to make anyone sit up and take note.
Benn is clearly the most likely winner, but bookmakers may be overrating his chances of a knockout victory.
If Algieri is anything like the fighter who took on Coyle in 2019 he can make life tricky for Benn and the 13-8 that this clash goes the distance looks a value punt.
On the undercard, it could pay to bet on an upset when Robbie Davies Jr faces Henry Lundy. Hank is a capable performer who has shared the ring with the likes of Terence Crawford and Viktor Postol. Crawford and John Molina Jr are the only men to have stopped the American in his 41 fights and Davies really isn't anything more than a domestic-level fighter.
Lundy is 37-years-old but he has remained fairly active and he took Jose Zepeda 12 rounds in May, indicating that he has more to offer than the prices suggest.
Davies has been beaten by Lewis Ritson, Gabriel Valenzuela and Michal Syrowatka and the defeat to Ritson was a heavy one. The fact that the Liverpool man was beaten by Valenzuela following that bruising loss to the Sandman suggests that defeat may have left its mark, and at 11-4 Lundy is the bet.
