Verlander can take Astros into orbit

Houston stand on the verge of their first World Series success after a thrilling 13-12 tenth-inning win in Game Five against the Los Angeles Dodgers on Sunday.

And their pitching cycle means that Justin Verlander, the star they signed from Detroit in a deadline-day deal at the end of August, is ready to take to the mound to finish the job.

Verlander has won all nine matches he has played for the Astros and can be relied on to go deep into Game Six in his final showing of the season, which is perhaps good news as the Houston bullpen has looked jaded in the last couple of nights.

The Dodgers, who must win the final two games, will field Alex Hill, but he has pitched just 13 innings since September 27.
