Series preview

The American League Championship series is one to savour, with the Houston Astros and New York Yankees going head to head in a best-of-seven series starting on Saturday night.

Both clubs won more than 100 regular season games, although they had contrasting experiences in the previous round. The men from the Big Apple swept the Minnesota Twins, but the Astros dropped two games against Tampa Bay Rays after leading 2-0, before winning the decider 6-1.

MLB have decided to change the baseball being used in the playoffs, and it looks as if the number of home runs being hit has sharply decreased. As the Yankees and Astros were both similarly reliant on the long ball in the regular season - they hit the second and third most in MLB - if it does act have an effect, it should at least be fair.

There is little between the sides at the prices, but the Astros are fancied to progress. Their starting pitchers Gerrit Cole and Justin Verlander were the best in the league and Houston also start at home and would play a deciding game in front of their own fans. That could make the difference in a tight series.
