Took keen hold, pressed leader, weakened before 3 out (inquiry into running and riding; jockey said that his instructions were to get gelding to settle as best as he could having run freely on his previous run when he failed to get home; having jumped off with leaders and taken 1st hurdle well, he explained that he decided to allow gelding to maintain a prominent position where he thought gelding may settle; however when upsides a rival he began to race keenly, which he reported at scales, until settling down back straight and continued to jump well until making a mistake at 4th last; in explaining his riding over the latter stages, he stated that although he was happy with way gelding was travelling until home straight, gelding quickly emptied so, in an effort to get him home, he decided to hold him together which he felt was justified when gelding made mistakes at last two hurdles; in summary, he thought that although gelding was an ex-pointer, he was still on the weak side and with his tendency to run freely, it would be best policy to keep him to 2m but apply a hood to help him to settle; his explanation was noted; vet had nothing to report) (op 100/1)
