Held up in rear, went modest third after 3 out, kept on from 2 out, never near to challenge (inquiry held into riding of gelding, which was settled towards the rear of the field before being asked for his effort at top of hill when turning into home straight to finish third, beaten 12 3/4 lengths; jockey stated that his instructions were to drop in and sit in rear, as he is a hold up horse; he explained that having sat towards the rear for first circuit, he attempted to make a move on the inside but was blocked by a rival and had to switch out from behind a wall of horses; he further explained that he wanted to get to top of the hill on bridle as his mount wouldn't have finished race off if he had asked any earlier as he felt that the eventual winner was setting a very strong pace; he added that given the way the race was run, he felt that his mount was staying on at one pace under pressure and, in his opinion, had obtained the best possible placing) (op 3/1)
