Took keen hold, prominent, pressed leader from 4th, not fluent 3 out, led 2 out, soon went clear, bad mistake and reduced lead last, ridden and kept on run-in, fatally injured (inquiry held into riding of winner from jumping final fence up until rounding bend towards pull up area after which gelding was immediately assessed by vets and subsequently euthanised on welfare grounds; jockey and Director of Equine Regulation, Safety, and Welfare were both interviewed and shown recordings of incident; jockey said gelding had made a bad mistake at last fence after which it had taken a stride or two for gelding to gather himself before, in his opinion, running on in a straight line to winning line where he felt sound; jockey added that it was only until rounding bend towards pull up area that gelding's action changed when gelding went from a canter to a trot after which he immediately dismounted from gelding; after reviewing footage, Director of Equine, Safety, and Welfare explained that gelding's action was typical of a 3m chaser in final stages of a race and supported evidence of jockey; after hearing all of their evidence, the stewards noted jockey's explanation) (op 3/1)
