b g Nathaniel (IRE) - L'Ile Aux Loups (IRE) (Rock Of Gibraltar)
Didn't jump with fluency, towards rear, mistake 1st, steady headway halfway, outpaced when niggled along briefly after 2 out, left in third 7 lengths down last, soon no impression (stewards inquiry into the running and riding; jockey said his orders were to jump from the middle of the group, to get gelding to settle and to do his best to achieve the best possible placing on the trying ground; jockey added gelding made several mistakes throughout the race, in particular a bad mistake at the first hurdle and as a result lost several lengths off the leader and when asked for an effort turning into the home straight, gelding did respond but was weakening, so he decided to ensure gelding jumped final hurdle safely and finished the race; trainer said he was satisfied with the ride which accorded with his instructions; their explanations were noted; vet said gelding had lost its left fore shoe and was slightly lame on its right hind)
