Held up towards rear, progress 3 out, 9th 2 out, headway approaching last, 2nd travelling easily early run-in, soon ridden and ran on well without getting to winner (jockey said, regarding the running and riding, gelding made up ground in running, but having jumped the second-last hurdle well, it began to struggle in the chopped-up ground; he felt on the approach to the final hurdle that he had all of the competitors covered and when the eventual winner jumped the hurdle slowly he was satisfied to give the gelding a quick breather as he felt that the leader had nothing more to offer; he was surprised that the winner picked up quickly and galloped very strongly to the line; trainer said he was having his second race in six days and he reluctantly ran him only because of a 19lb penalty for his win at Thurles and that he was satisfied with the ride.)
