Led, headed after 3 out, edged left approaching last, eased run-in (jockey said, regarding running and riding, that his instructions were to race handily and to give the gelding daylight at its hurdles, having been unsuited by being held up amongst horses in its previous two starts over hurdles. He explained that the gelding responded well to the change of tactics but became tired very quickly in the home straight and didn't respond to the whip prior to the final hurdle. He therefore felt it prudent to hold the gelding together under a hands and heels ride on the run in whereby he achieved the best possible placing. He added that he would recommend to the trainer that the gelding is ridden up with the pace in future races over a similar distance) (op 18/1)
