William Hill sign another US deal after agreement with Golden Entertainment
William Hill's deal-making spree in the United States has continued with the news they have entered a long-term agreement with gaming company Golden Entertainment to manage their racing and sports betting operations in three states.
The deal will expand the two companies' existing partnership in Nevada, while they said they would also pursue opportunities in Montana and Maryland, subject to legislation being passed to allow sports betting in those states.
Golden Entertainment own the Rocky Gap Casino Resort in Maryland and operate slot gaming in Montana.
William Hill chief executive Philip Bowcock said: "This is another important milestone for our US business as William Hill expands its relationship with Golden Entertainment in Nevada and extends our potential reach in the US to more states.
"This shows the benefits of our flexible business model – we are the only operator taking bets in all states where full sports betting is legal and we continue to extend our market access."
Hills are expected to begin operating Golden Entertainment’s additional Nevada race and sports books by December, subject to regulatory approval.
Analysts at Goodbody said of the announcement: "While not a huge deal for William Hill, this is another incremental positive for its US business and an endorsement for its US operation."
Having established their US arm in Nevada in 2012, William Hill have already expanded into New Jersey, provide sports betting for several casinos in Mississippi and a casino in West Virginia and work as risk manager for the sports lottery in Delaware.
Last month Hills agreed a 25-year partnership with Nasdaq-listed casino group Eldorado Resorts that will extend their reach to 13 states where sports betting is either legal or sports betting bills are tabled.
And last week the bookmaker signed a deal with gaming company IGT in a bid to offer a sports betting service to state lotteries in the US.
In May the US Supreme Court repealed laws which had banned sports betting in all but a handful of states, resulting in a potentially huge opening for UK and Irish gambling operators.
