'We've laid him at all rates' - bookmakers reveal their Royal Ascot liabilities

Royal Ascot kicks off on Tuesday with the best Flat horses coming together over five days of top-class action at the iconic Berkshire venue. Frankie Dettori and Aidan O'Brien have been popular for punters trying to beat the bookmakers in the last few years and several leading firms have revealed who they fear the most this week.

'Nature Strip has been our best-backed horse'

Paul Binfield, Paddy Power: "Chris Waller has had only one previous runner at the royal meeting, with Brazen Beau finishing second in the 2015 Diamond Jubilee Stakes and the Australian trainer's Nature Strip has been our best-backed horse ante-post in the King's Stand (3.40). He's currently 5-2 with us.

"Sir Michael Stoute proved he's still a force to be reckoned with in the last week or so and his 11-10 favourite Bay Bridge in the Prince of Wales's Stakes (3.40) is our second most popular wager before the meeting. It's not hard to see why after his Brigadier Gerard demolition job.

"Although I don't have a crystal ball, I would imagine Paddy Power Yorkshire Cup hero Stradivarius will be highly popular if the ground stays quick for Thursday's Gold Cup (4.20) at 2-1.

"It would also be amazing for the sport if Her Majesty could have a royal winner in this very special year and I'd imagine if Reach For The Moon prevails in the Hampton Court Stakes (5.35) there won't be a dry eye in the house, or much money in the bookmakers' satchels."

'Baaeed and Coroebus will be acca mainstays'

Nicola McGeady, Ladbrokes: "The most popular selection is Bay Bridge, who is the 5-4 favourite in the Prince of Wales's Stakes (3.40) for Derby-winning trainer Sir Michael Stoute. He laid down the marker when winning the Coral Brigadier Gerard Stakes last month and has been the best-backed horse for the royal meeting.

"In addition, Baaeed (Queen Anne), Coroebus (St James's' Palace), Hurricane Lane (Hardwicke) and Alfred Munnings (Chesham) are obvious favourites who are going to be the mainstays of all the accas, and we expect them to rack up the biggest liabilities."

Royal Ascot accas: the Tuesday treble that has bookmakers braced

'No ante-post concerns'

David Stevens, Coral: "We don't go into the week with anything causing us concern in terms of our ante-post positions. As always with the major meetings, turnover, and therefore potential liabilities, on each day will far outweigh what we've taken in the build-up.

"Tuesday sees two of the shortest-priced favourites of the week in action, and Baaeed and Coroebus are sure to feature in plenty of multiples, as will other market leaders such as Bay Bridge, Homeless Songs if she runs and Alfred Munnings.

"However, there are plenty of far more competitive looking races over the five days where we'd be hopeful of getting a good result or two."

'Kyprios would be our big loser'

Sarah Kinsella, BoyleSports: "Kyprios is our big ante-post loser in the Gold Cup (4.20). Aidan O'Brien has a fabulous record in the race and this homebred from Moyglare Stud was introduced into the market at 7-1 back in April and we have laid him at all rates down. He is currently the 2-1 favourite.

"We have laid plenty of decent bets each-way on Lady Tilbury at 14-1 for the Queen Mary on Wednesday (2.30) after she won at Tipperary last time and also laid some good bets on Perotto at 14-1 in the Wolferton Stakes (5.35) as he bids to follow up his Britannia win last year.

"Quarantine Dreams has been popular for the Wokingham (4.20), from 25-1 into 12-1 since betting opened, however markets are only beginning to come to life now."
