'We've come the long road' - Living's Boy An Co rewards Wainwright's patience

Living's Boy An Co rewarded his trainer John Wainwright's patience as he recorded his first win under rules at the 21st attempt in the 2m3f novice handicap chase.

Living's Boy An Co moved to Wainwright's yard last year and had been tried over hurdles and fences without getting off the mark, but everything clicked as the seven-year-old recorded a 20-length success under Emma Smith-Chaston.

"It was a good run at Cartmel last time [when second] as Tico Times [the winner] has won since. He loved that ground today, just on the easy side of good, and I'm very pleased," Wainwright told Racing TV.

"We've only had him 12 months, we ran him three times and he was just running okay, but he wasn't a horse then. He's an ex-Gigginstown horse. We've come the long road and that's his 11th run for me and he's won.

"He's a nice horse, he's always been a nice horse but I just wanted to get his confidence back and a little yard like ours has done it."

Exciting future

Harbour Lake, who was a non-runner in a Grade 1 novice at the Aintree festival last season, overcame trouble in-running to land the 2m4½f handicap hurdle under Tom Cannon.

The Alan King-trained six-year-old has now won all four of his completed starts, and was better value than the three quarters of a length margin suggests, as he was going away at the line after forcing his way through Big Bad Bear and Gaelik Coast, who filled the places.
