There has been much discussion about the European Pattern Committee's insistence on the Commonwealth Cup being restricted to colts and fillies in 2020, following some initial leniency to get the race up and running.
The distance that Campanelle and Dragon Symbol put between themselves and the rest suggests we saw two high-class horses fight out the finish and overall the quality doesn't look to have suffered for the race adopting a purist approach.
Moreover it has had the unintended but welcome consequence of bolstering the Group 3 Jersey Stakes, which is open to geldings and which has become a target for those that can't take in the Commonwealth.
