Watch out Aintree: King still thinks the world of Redicean

Alan King has urged punters to keep faith with Redicean despite his JCB Triumph Hurdle disappointment and predicted better things to come at Aintree next month.

The impressive Adonis Hurdle winner was sent off a 7-1 chance for Cheltenham’s Grade 1 juvenile contest but struggled on the particularly testing ground after the turn for home and finished well adrift of winner Farclas in sixth.

The Grade 1 Doom Bar Anniversary 4-Y-O Juvenile Hurdle is the target for the son of Medicean and King, speaking in his Racing Post Weekender column, said: “I hope he can show his true colours as I still think the world of him.

"The ground was to blame for his run in the Triumph Hurdle as he travelled grand but was finished once he hit the deepest part turning in. Wayne [Hutchinson] looked after him and he’s one to keep faith in.”

Yanworth a headscratcher

Yanworth won the Liverpool Hurdle at Aintree last year but may not make the trip back to Merseyside after finishing distressed in the Sun Bets Stayers’ Hurdle at Cheltenham.

The eight-year-old appeared to have every chance between the last two hurdles but could not quicken and finished almost seven lengths adrift of winner Penhill in sixth.

King said: "I was very disappointed with Yanworth in the Stayers’ Hurdle. I wouldn’t have thought the ground or the slow pace would have been a problem but he finished distressed, which he’s never done before.

“His tests were clear afterwards but that wasn’t him. We’ll need to discuss whether to send him to Aintree.”

Chester aim for Who Dares Wins

The ground was the undoing for Who Dares Wins in the Pertemps Final but he still ran well to finish fifth and is set to head back to the Flat for the Chester Cup in May.

King said about his Cesarewitch Trial winner: "Who Dares Wins is a possible for Aintree but is more likely to go straight for the Chester Cup. He was an unlucky fourth in that last year and ran really well for a long way in the Pertemps Final."
