Thunder Snow on course for Churchill Curragh clash

Thunder Snow, the colt who grabbed the headlines for all the wrong reasons in the Kentucky Derby, will be given the chance to redeem his reputation in Saturday's Tattersalls Irish 2,000 Guineas.

Hopes were high in the Godolphin camp that Thunder Snow, winner of the UAE Derby in March, would provide Sheikh Mohammed with a coveted first Kentucky Derby triumph.

However, the colt's race ended in bizarre circumstances after he performed a bucking bronco routine upon exiting the stalls, actions which those connected to him are still unable to explain.

Trainer Saeed Bin Suroor has been happy with Thunder Snow since his return to Newmarket and, following a good piece of work on Tuesday, confirmed he would run at the Curragh.

"Thunder Snow worked nicely on the Limekilns this morning and the plan is to take him to the Irish 2,000 Guineas on Saturday. He seems in good form since his US trip and we think the track will suit him," Bin Suroor said.

Thunder Snow, who finished fourth behind subsequent 2,000 Guineas winner Churchill in the Dewhurst last year before landing the Group 1 Criterium International, is the general 7-1 third favourite for Saturday's contest. Churchill heads the market at 1-3.
