Three horses worth watching tonight at Wolverhampton
Oh This Is Us
17.55 Wolverhampton (A.W)
Oh This Is Us is worth watching as much for the man on his back as his own ability. Ryan Moore goes to Wolverhampton for one ride and that in itself is notable. In 2018 he made the trip to the West Midlands track only four times, landing two winners and a third.
Moore has ridden Oh This Is Us four times, all in races worth more than £40,000 to the winner, and has been beaten a length or less in three of those four races with a three and three-quarter length seventh in the 2017 Balmoral Handicap at Ascot their worst effort together. This is a drop in class, so it will be interesting to see how they get on.
Prerogative
18:25 Wolverhampton (A.W)
Poppy Bridgwater's talent in the saddle has not gone unnoticed, consequently she is an interesting booking while still able to claim 5lb from Prerogative. It is her only ride on the card on a horse she knows well – the pair won nicely at Chelmsford last time over two furlongs shorter – and that bodes well for a yard for which she has ridden 22 winners at a 19 per cent strike-rate.
Moreover, 47 per cent of Bridgwater's rides for Tony Carroll have finished in the first three, so the five-year-old should not be too far away.
Charlie Appleby has the 1-4 favourite for the closing race in Lingfield winner Marhaban, but it could be worth keeping an eye on the second string for signs of promise as David Probert's mount is well bred. You would expect Cirque Royal to come into his own over further, given his dam is a half sister to Torcedor, herself out of a full sister to Yates.
So, if he can mix it with his more experienced and more speedily bred stablemate on debut over one mile, one and a half furlongs, then it will hint at good things to come.
