Super seven: a clean sweep for favourites on Southwell's evening card
Favourite backers at Southwell enjoyed a profitable Valentine's evening with all seven market leaders winning on the card.
Luscifer justified favouritism in the concluding 7f handicap to ensure the clean sweep, while also bringing up a treble for all-weather title leader Ben Curtis.
Curtis passed the half century for the year earlier on the card with wins aboard Three C's in the mile handicap and Sandridge Lad in the 6f handicap.
The winning favourites
5.10 Three C's 15-8
5.45 Brooklyn Boy 9-4
6.15 Rodin 4-6
6.45 Sandridge Lad 8-11
7.15 Arabian King 1-4
7.45 Love Your Work 6-4
8.15 Luscifer 11-8
The other winning favourites were Arabian King, who sealed a Southwell hat-trick in just over two weeks for James Ferguson in the 1m3f handicap, Love Your Work, who completed a quickfire Fibresand double in the penultimate mile handicap, Rodin in the 5f maiden and Brooklyn Boy in the first 1m3f handicap.
A £1 accumulator on the seven favourites at starting prices returned £199.64.
Placepot and quadpot winners did not have much to cheer about. The placepot paid £6.60 to a £1 stake with 10,221.66 winning units, while the quadpot dividend was £3.20 to the same stake with 2,068.97 winning units.
Paddy Power's Paul Binfield said: "It's been a far more expensive evening for us on a Friday night at Southwell than we would normally encounter.
"Quite a few multiples and doubles have come in and it's been a fairly chunky payout for Paddy on a Friday evening, but it gives punters ammunition for a top Saturday of action providing racing survives the latest storm. Let's hope Dennis doesn't prove a menace!"
