Stellar success by Starman but it's Santa Barbara who earns the biggest applause

Starman landed the July Cup bonus points for his Tote Ten To Follow fans in a style that stamped him as the dominant sprinter of the season. With the victory, Starman moved into fourth place in the table of leading Ten To Follow scorers.

The 57.7 points gained on Saturday and the promise of many more to come will have given a huge fillip to the 3.8 per cent of Ten To Follow stables who included Ed Walker’s stable star in their teams at the start of the competition.

Another significant Newmarket success for players came 24 hours earlier when Snow Lantern captured the Falmouth Stakes. The Richard Hannon-trained grey represents 17 per cent of stables and scored 33 points for the Group 1 win.

An even bigger cheer will have gone up when results came through from Belmont, New York, as Santa Barbara, the third most selected horse in the competition, at last fulfilled her promise and landed the Belmont Oaks, scoring 28.35 points for 63.1 per cent of stables.

Her stablemate Bolshoi Ballet, so disappointing when flopping as favourite for the Derby, captured the Belmont Derby Invitational Stakes to gain redemption with 28.45 points for 10.8 per cent of stables.

Although Motakhayyel represented only 0.2 per cent of stables his win in the Bunbury Cup was more notable for the Tote Scoop6 bonus chaser, as he helped her bag an extra £88,121 from her £8 stake. For Ten To Follow players, though, the win meant just 18.1 points came their way.

Yibir confirmed Sandown Classic Trial form as he sauntered to success in the Bahrain Trophy to score 18.8 points for 0.5 per cent of stables, while Sir Ron Priestley got the better of Al Aasy in a Princess of Wales’s Stakes tussle for 26 points (6.5 per cent of stables).

The biggest scorer of the week was the Ken Condon-trained Laws Of Indices who garnered 62.4 points in the Group 1 Prix Jean Prat at Deauville for an rather astute 0.1 per cent of stables.

Fellow Irish raider Loch Lein landed the Listed Prix Amandine to give six stables 21.7 points.
