Stainton to miss time with broken collarbone after Woverhampton fall

Michael Stainton is set to miss a few weeks after being unseated from Silently at Wolverhampton on Friday evening.

Stainton - who returned to the saddle after a two-year corruption ban only in June - was unshipped when Silently was squeezed in the early stages of the opening 6f classified stakes, after which Jack Mitchell was suspended for nine days for careless riding.

"Michael has broken his collarbone and the doctors say he'll be off for a few weeks," said Stainton's agent Mark Furness.

"He didn't have much chance at all when the other horse cut across. It's disappointing because he's not been back for long and the likes of Karl Burke, Chris Fairhurst and Micky Hammond have been looking out for him. He was just getting going and it's a time of year when a few of the lads are heading off to warmer places."

Danny Tudhope will also be out of action for a couple of days after complaining of a sore back at Newmarket on Friday.

After giving up his final three rides at Newmarket, Tudhope missed one mount at York on Saturday.

New sponsor for Luck show

Fifty Shades of Hay on tour

Racing Post journalist David Ashforth was on hand at Waterstones in Cirencester on Thursday evening to sign copies of his new book, Fifty Shades of Hay: The Extraordinary World of Racehorse names.

Ashforth said: “Obviously people will go straight to the Sexcetera chapter first but I particularly enjoyed delving into the name origins of horses like Taxidermist, and finding out all sorts of weird and wonderful reasons as to why people name their horses as they do.”
