Since winning the biggest race of her career, the King George VI Chase, Bryony Frost has experienced the good, the bad and the downright bizarre side of social media.

First, the bizarre. Someone set up a fake Twitter account pretending to be her that gathered more than 5,000 followers with just two posts. It is a reflection of the level she has attained within the sport and the size of Saturday's achievement at Kempton.

The real Bryony Frost said: "I've got Instagram, and it was a massive step for me to go on to social media. I actually really enjoy that, it's pictures which are good fun, but Twitter I stay well away from. Someone's pretending to be me – mind blown."

There has been plenty of good too. "My world for the last 24 hours has been completely turned upside down with all the 'well dones' and love being sent the whole team's way. I don't think it'll ever sink in," she continued.

"I couldn't keep up with my phone – I burnt my pizza – but I did get a free vanilla latte from the garage on the way home because the guy behind the counter watched it, so that was great.

"Hearing people's stories on Instagram about their daughters galloping around the living room pretending to be Frodon has put a massive smile on my face."

But Frost has also had her moment soured slightly by negative comments, including from within the sport.

She would not go into detail but said: "The more success you have the more people that will frown at you as well as smile with you, so you have to accept it all.

"I'm very lucky I've an amazingly supportive family and team around me and I'm starting to build that bubble in very tight. I'm learning still, I'm 25 and I'm still adapting but I will never change myself because of what some opinions are.

"That's not what you're supposed to do. As we grow up we have to remain ourselves, that's the most important thing."

Asked if it gets to her she added: "We're only human, of course it does. It's hard for me to chat about it because there are still things that need to be sorted out – but I feel for our younger generation this is something I'm going to be very keen to make better.

"It's from within [the sport] at the minute but it's nothing we can't handle. I will try to fix it. I don't want to go into it at the minute, I'm just trying to protect a few others. I can't say too much."
