'Slight improvement' in Josh Moore's condition following complications

Jamie Moore has said there has been some slight improvement in his brother Josh's condition, but there is still a "long way to go" in his recovery following his fall at Haydock last Saturday.

It was announced on Wednesday by the Injured Jockeys Fund that the 30-year-old was in critical care at Aintree University Hospital after complications from a chest infection, having undergone successful surgery on a broken femur following his fall from Gleno in the veterans' chase.

He also sustained broken ribs, a punctured lung and damage to his back in the fall and had been moved to intensive care on Sunday due to a rare reaction while under sedation before his operation on Monday.

In a message to ITV Racing, Jamie Moore said: "He's had a slight improvement, but all we can do is still pray. There's a long way to go – still got to keep fighting. He's not turned the corner but he is slightly better. We are nothing without him."

Josh Moore suffered various injury setbacks through the season, including a serious concussion last summer before he required major spinal surgery in a six-hour operation to insert metal rods and screws into his back following a fall at Plumpton in October.

The Grade 1-winning jockey only returned to race-riding in late January and recorded a Grade 2 success in the National Spirit Hurdle at Fontwell in February.
