The BHA has announced six additional fixtures will be staged between February 20 and February 28, as British racing attempts to regain some of the ground lost due to the equine influenza-enforced shutdown.

Over the course of six days, commencing on February 7, 23 fixtures were cancelled after the infection was detected in horses from Donald McCain's yard on February 6.

Paul Johnson, head of racing at the BHA, said: "Given the extraordinary circumstances of recent days, we were acutely aware of the number of horses who will be needing to run next week throughout all levels of the horse population. As such, we have moved as quickly as possible to add six fixtures next week across both codes.

"Race programmes at these fixtures are being finalised, but will reflect feedback from trainers received in recent days and weeks."

Johnson added: "Coupled with increased flexibility on divisions at many racecourses, the aim is to ensure that suitable opportunities exist for the horses who need them.

"Our thanks go to the Horserace Betting Levy Board and the racecourses involved for their help in staging these fixtures so quickly."
