Simon Crisford is set to launch an ambitious Santa Anita raid on November 1 with Royal Ascot-winning speedball A'Ali and Group 3 scorer Al Raya, who are poised to contest the Grade 2 Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf Sprint.

A'Ali has been one of the standout two-year-old colts of the season, stringing together a hat-trick at Group 2 level in the Norfolk Stakes, Prix Robert Papin and Flying Childers Stakes over the minimum trip.

Ed Crisford, son and assistant to trainer Simon, said: "A'Ali has been an incredibly consistent colt this season. His only real disappointment came in the Prix Morny and he still ran with credit that day.

"This race was always in the back of our minds and after he won the Flying Childers we decided to put him away and get him ready for this.

"It’s a tight track over five furlongs at Santa Anita so the draw is going to be key. He’s never been around a bend but we took him to Wolverhampton for a racecourse gallop and to get him used to going around and bend and switching leads and he did it well."

Crisford expects the son of Society Rock, who has already run twice in France, to be unfazed by the potential rigours of a transatlantic venture due to his calm demeanour.

"He’s the most relaxed horse – his temperament is unbelievable," added Crisford. "He should take the travelling well. I should think he would run on Lasix as you want it to be a level playing field."

Al Raya, who achieved a first Group 3 success in the Prix d'Arenburg at Chantilly on her last start when accounting for the Charlie Appleby-trained Divine Spirit, completes the yard's interest in the race.

Crisford said: "Al Raya will love the ground and she fully deserves her place in the race. She’s always been very sharp and ran well in the Queen Mary earlier in the season before her Group win in France. She’s a good filly in her own right."

Daahyeh to finish season in Fillies' Turf

The Roger Varian-trained Daahyeh adds further British intrigue to proceedings in California by attempting to round off a productive two-year-old campaign in the Grade 1 Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf on November 1.

The Bated Breath filly has scored twice in Group 2 company this year, securing the Albany Stakes and Rockfel Stakes with a Group 1 second to Love in the Moyglare Stud Stakes sandwiched between, but will have her stamina examined over a mile for the first time at Santa Anita.

David Egan, who won the Albany on Daahyeh, said: "She’s a good filly and deserves her place. She goes out there next week and hopefully Will [Buick] can do the business.

"She does everything so easily so doesn’t have to work that hard to get ready for her races. She goes out there in great form and with a great chance."
