Sergei Prokofiev leads O'Brien quest for 17th win in Phoenix
Aidan O'Brien has declared a four-strong team led by Sergei Prokofiev as he targets an incredible 17th victory in the Group 1 Keeneland Phoenix Stakes at the Curragh on Sunday.
Sergei Prokofiev, third in the Coventry Stakes on his last start, is joined by stablemates The Irish Rover, Gossamer Wings and So Perfect in the contest, for which British raider Advertise and the Jessica Harrington-trained Indigo Balance complete the field.
Sergei Prokofiev needs to turn around Royal Ascot form with Advertise, who finished second to Calyx in the Coventry and has since won the July Stakes at Newmarket.
Regarding Sergei Prokofiev, O'Brien said on At The Races: "He's a very fast horse and ran a great race at Royal Ascot. He's very well and we've always thought a lot of him, so we're looking forward to running him."
O'Brien has dominated the Phoenix, with last year's winner Sioux Nation giving him a fourth straight success.
