Sam Walker with five horses who can lead the fightback for Britain next season

Ireland's dominance over Britain at the Cheltenham Festival continued in the Grand National, as they occupied ten of the first 11 places in the showpiece race.

British trainers had 22 of the 40 runners in the National but only three managed to finish: Blaklion, Hogan's Heights and Sub Lieutenant. The trio were beaten 36, 74 and 122 lengths respectively.

The headlines from Cheltenham and the Grand National clearly reflect a sorry state of affairs for the home team. However, away from the main event, there were green shoots for some British trainers at Aintree and I've picked out five horses who the ratings suggest can make hay next season.
