Royal Ascot heroine Hayley Turner dislocates collarbone in Kempton fall
Hayley Turner, who was riding high after registering a second success at Royal Ascot last week, is set for a short spell on the sidelines after dislocating her collarbone in a fall at Kempton on Saturday evening.
Just two days after partnering Onassis to a 33-1 success in the Sandringham Stakes, Turner took a bruising fall when the James Ferguson-trained Red Armour suffered a fatal injury during the 7f handicap at the venue.
Although the record-breaking rider returned home that evening, subsequent tests on her shoulder revealed the injury to her collarbone.
"I got home and was still very sore, so I got on to Dr Jerry Hill, who is the PJA doctor and is a great help to us all whenever something like this happens," said Turner.
"He spoke to Kempton's team and they guessed what might have happened to my shoulder. Jerry managed to squeeze me in to see Geoff Graham, who looks after all the National Hunt guys in Cardiff."
Writing in her MansionBet blog on Wednesday, Turner added: "I was really lucky to get an MRI scan on Monday with him as it’s a nightmare getting anything in at the moment.
"I got the results back yesterday which confirmed I have dislocated my collarbone. The recovery shouldn’t take too long, so hopefully I’ll be back riding soon."
Lightning struck twice for Turner at Ascot, who after partnering Thanks Be to victory for trainer Charlie Fellowes in the Sandringham last year, teamed up with the same trainer to record back-to-back wins in the race with Onassis.
