Robbie Power will miss next week's Galway festival as he undergoes surgery to resolve an old back issue in the coming days, with the Listowel harvest festival earmarked as his comeback target.

The Gold Cup and Grand National-winning rider ruptured a disc back in January 2017 and had been able to keep riding thanks to an injection at that stage, but a recent attempt to use the same treatment did not have the desired effect this time around.

Power, who turned 40 in May and was originally pencilled in to ride at Tipperary on July 1, said: "The disc I injured back in 2017 is giving me trouble again and I had it injected last week.
