'Ridiculous rule' - Irish trainers frustrated by ban on some runners in Britain

Frustration is growing among Irish trainers over the extension of a BHA ban on overseas runners in low-grade British handicaps, with the rule seemingly set to remain in place until at least 2022.

As part of adjustments to its Covid-19 protocols last October, the BHA does not permit horses trained abroad from competing in class five and six handicaps/classified stakes on the Flat, and class five handicaps over jumps.

A BHA spokesperson confirmed to the Racing Post that the restriction was discussed at the Industry Racing Group last month, but the decision was made to continue with it. There is said to be no planned end date.
