James Ferguson, son of former Godolphin chief executive and successful jumps trainer John, saddled his first winner as a trainer when Arabian King bolted up under Luke Morris in the 1m4f handicap at Southwell.

Ferguson, who trains from Saville House Stables in Newmarket, was closely involved with many of his father’s winners including Grade 1 scorer Parlour Games, and was delighted to get off the mark in his own name.

“I’m extremely thrilled,” he said. “We’ve hit the crossbar plenty of times lately. I had a few winners riding but this means everything.
