Chepstow: unbeaten Doyen Star 40-1 for Supreme and Ballymore after second hurdles win
Friday: Chepstow
A tilt at the Supreme or Ballymore Novices’ Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival will come under consideration for Doyen Star after he maintained his unbeaten record for Evan Williams.
The William and Angela Rucker-owned five-year-old, who cost £120,000 after winning a point-to-point in Ireland in April, backed up his stable debut win at this track when scoring by two and a half lengths under Adam Wedge in the 2m novice hurdle. He was cut to 40-1 (from 66) for the Supreme and Ballymore with William Hill.
Williams said: “It looked a competitive race, so it was nice to see him win under a penalty. He has the two entries at Cheltenham and it will be something to talk about.
“He likes nice ground and he’s versatile trip-wise, so it’s nice to have options. I do think there’s more to come. We’ve always liked him and he’s unbeaten – there’s not many of those about!”
Hat-trick hero
Monbeg Genius sealed a hat-trick over fences when landing the feature 2m7½f handicap chase off top weight.
The progressive seven-year-old was the second leg of a 170-1 treble for Jonjo O'Neill and the trainer's son Jonjo Jr, who struck with Inch House in the 2m7½f novice hurdle and Beachcomber in the bumper.
Age just a number
The oldest two horses on the seven-race card were successful when 11-year-old Skinflint, trained by Henry Oliver and ridden by Bryan Carver, won the 2m3½f handicap chase and the Emma-Jane Bishop-trained Max Dynamo dominated the 3m2f handicap chase after a 288-day layoff under Harrison Beswick.
