Apprentice William Cox gains his biggest success as Porth Swtan strikes again

As he steadily climbs racing's ladder of success apprentice William Cox will forever be grateful to Porth Swtan.

The three-year-old from the Charlie Hills yard gave him his biggest-ever success when winning a valuable mile handicap at Newmarket last month, but he bettered that when getting home in a three-way photo for the £50,000 Beverley Silver Cup over two furlongs further.

It was all pretty straight forward as well. It may have looked a red-hot handicap but very few looked like winning. Despite being drawn out in stall 11, Cox had his mount smartly away and was always in the first two, then after sending him on just inside the last two furlongs, he held on by a head as the Scottish raider Glasses Up came fast and late.
