British racing has made its submission to the government outlining the financial impact of the decision to delay the return of crowds for as much as six months, with ministers being asked to help the sport to be self-reliant.

Racing's leadership hopes the government will be able to take action swiftly to allow income to start flowing more strongly again, with racecourses set to lose up to £300 million in revenue this year due to the lack of racegoers caused by the Covid-19 crisis.

The government had planned to start reopening sports venues to crowds in a limited capacity from the start of October, but last week prime minister Boris Johnson said that would not be able to go ahead due to an increase in coronavirus cases.
