Racegoers Club may cease operating in September unless new management found

The Racegoers Club, established as 'British horseracing’s official supporters club' in 1968, is trying to find new management with the clock ticking on its future and members fearing its potential demise is reflective of a wider malaise in the sport.

The Racecourse Association (RCA) recently announced its intention to withdraw its backing for the 54-year-old institution in light of falling membership, which has halved to below 2,000 since the Covid-19 pandemic, and rising costs, with its management of the club confirmed to be ending on September 21 at a meeting on Monday.

The Racegoers Club, a not-for-profit association, states its purpose is to “seek to promote and encourage involvement in ownership” and “facilitate engagement of its members by organising events and visits and encouraging communication with the wider racing industry”.
