Quality crop: Harrington warns best is yet to come with two-year-olds
Jessica Harrington has already won 12 juvenile races this season but has warned the best is yet to come as she looks forward to taking the wraps off some regally bred two-year-olds in the next few weeks.
The master trainer has been successful with exciting prospects such as Albigna, Windracer, Cool Vixen and Millisle, and will be well represented in the major juvenile contests later this year.
“There's lots of two-year-olds we're excited to get out," said Harrington. "There's a good few unraced colts and I'm looking forward to Alpha Centauri's half-sister, who is by Sea The Moon.
“They really are a lovely bunch. We have some nice Fastnet Rocks, a nice Acclamation and we're running a lovely Kyllachy at the weekend as well. We've got a couple more Australias we like – they're all there and I'm very lucky to have them."
Harrington added: “It's the same old adage. Success breeds success but they've still got to go and do it on the track. After Alpha Centauri last year, it's pretty scary to have a good bunch of juveniles."
It is even more scary to consider the talent Harrington has already unveiled. While most trainers worry about a lack of quality, her main headache will be keeping those she has already run apart.
While offering updates on her leading lights, Harrington reported filly Windracer to be on course for the Group 3 Silver Flash Stakes at Leopardstown on July 25.
Harrington said: “Windracer has been in great form since her win at the Curragh and we'll probably go to the Silver Flash at Leopardstown next. She's a lovely, big filly and we're really looking forward to her.”
Albigna has achieved the most of any juvenile at Harrington’s Moone Stables after justifying connections' decision to supplement her for the Group 2 Airlie Stud Stakes last month.
Plans for her, like so many of Harrington’s two-year-old winners, are fluid, with the trainer debating whether or not to run her before the Moyglare Stud Stakes later in the season.
She said: “Albigna is great. The Moyglare is the aim but we're not sure whether to run her before. The Debutante Stakes could be an option but I've got Cayenne Pepper for that. They have to stay sound and get there – it will depend on some of our other fillies as well.
“We've got some other smart types, like Between Hills, Cool Vixen and Ha'penny Bridge – there's others lying in the long grass that have to go somewhere. There aren't too many winners’ races.
“Millisle is another one. She's a very speedy filly. We might go to England with her for something, we'll just have to see.”
