'We've been following him at home and I think he'll go well'
James Bowen joins our panel along with Robbie Wilders and Richard Young
Cheltenham is back. Who’s your best bet on Saurday’s card?
James Bowen, jockeyOscar Elite in the 3m½f novice chase (4.40). He was third in a Grade 1 at Aintree last time and was second in the Albert Bartlett at Cheltenham before that, so he has good form. His two main rivals, Does He Know and Roi De Dubai, have to give him 8lb, which won’t be easy.
Pat Cooney, bet365Before Midnight (3.30) has done well since joining Sam Thomas’s stable and 2m on good ground looks ideal for him. I think he’s well handicapped off 136 and seems likely to improve again this season. Sky Pirate will no doubt be popular but I’m not sure he can give 23lb and a beating to Before Midnight.
Tim Peters, commentator There was a lot to like about Does He Know (4.40) when he won on his chasing debut at Chepstow. He only beat a small field, but it was the manner of it that impressed me. Last season he won twice over hurdles at Cheltenham before finishing fifth to Bob Olinger in the Ballymore. He’ll be happy on the ground and can go well despite carrying a penalty.
