Prosser pleased with Newmarket ground and will not water

Newmarket clerk of the course Michael Prosser declared himself pleased with the course on day one of the July festival and will resist the temptation to water ahead of Friday's card.
Prosser said: "All the feedback we've received has been positive and it has been decent fast ground. The groundstaff have done an excellent job when you consider where we were two weeks ago. Who would have thought that we'd water the day before this meeting ten to 12 days ago?"
Between 2mm and 6mm of rain is forecast overnight and into Friday morning.
