Jubiloso bids to continue Sir Michael Stoute's outstanding Atalanta record

Betway Atalanta Stakes (Group 3) | 1m | fillies and mares | 3yo+ | ITV4/RTV
Key questions
Can anyone stop Stoute?
It will surprise nobody that Sir Michael Stoute, a dab hand with fillies, boasts a fantastic record in the Atalanta Stakes.
He has already won it with Dabaweyaa (1988), Hyabella (1991), Wasseema (2006), Strawberrydaiquiri (2009), Dank (2012), Integral (2013, dead-heated with Ladys First) and Veracious (2018).
This year he saddles likely hot favourite Jubiloso, who produced a career-best performance when third to Watch Me in the Group 1 Coronation Stakes at Royal Ascot.
She didn’t quite reproduce the lofty level of that form when occupying the same position behind Billesdon Brook in Goodwood’s Group 3 Oak Tree Stakes, but there were mitigating circumstances, as Teddy Grimthorpe, racing manager to the filly’s owner, Khalid Abdullah, emphasised.
He said: "Things just didn’t go right for her at Goodwood. She was a bit unlucky and got knocked into at a crucial stage.
"She has come out of that race well and looks in great shape so we’re very hopeful."
Will the Gosden-Dettori combination triumph again?
Duneflower, who seems sure to start second favourite to Jubiloso, is firmly on an upward curve and bids for a hat-trick.
She beat one of her Atalanta rivals, Look Around, by three-quarters of a length on her most recent start at Ascot in July, and her profile suggests she could show further improvement and confirm that form.
Trainer John Gosden said: "Duneflower won well at Ascot on similar ground and this is a natural progression for her. It's a nice race to go for, and we've been pleased with her at home in the meantime."
Will the drop in trip suit Lavender’s Blue?
Lavender’s Blue, who along with Solar Gold holds a Group 1 entry in the Kingdom of Bahrain Sun Chariot Stakes at Newmarket in October, was last seen when finishing 14th of 14 in the Oaks.
However, she had subsequent Irish Oaks heroine Star Catcher a neck behind when finishing runner-up to Queen Power over 1m2f at Newbury and should not be taken lightly.
This drop to a mile could suit the filly – she may not have stayed 1m4f at Epsom – and trainer Amanda Perrett said: "She has been training very nicely. The ground at Salisbury was too soft for her a couple of weeks ago so she missed that engagement and goes to Sandown. It’s a tough race, but she has won over a mile and is in good form."
What they say
Richard Fahey, trainer of Exhort
Exhort has improved this season and she beat subsequent Goodwood winner Billesdon Brook at Pontefract. It would be nice to get some more black type in the Atalanta Stakes and a mile around Sandown should suit.
William Haggas, trainer of Solar Gold
She’s back up in trip and will run a really nice race. We’ve all got Sir Michael’s [Jubiloso] to beat, but my filly has trained very nicely.
Andrew Balding, trainer of Look Around
She ran very well at Ascot last time and won a Listed race at Sandown last year. Jubiloso will be very tough to beat, but hopefully we will be competitive for a place.
