British mob-handed at annual Bank Holiday bash in the Channel Islands

There are plenty of runners from Britain heading for the annual bank holiday Monday meeting in Guernsey, and history will surely not be repeating itself from 12 months ago.

In 2017, the meeting was lost to the weather for the first time when it was too stormy in the Channel Islands for horses to travel.

But runners from the stables of David Evans, Mick Appleby, Richard Guest, Tony Newcombe, Martin Smith and Natalie Lloyd-Beavis should have no such trouble this time.

Evans, who is preparing to fly from Staverton airfield to the island on Sunday, has four runners, including Ochos Rios in the opening 1m6f handicap.

He said: "We have runners at this meeting in Guernsey every year – except last year when it was off.

"The track is a bit like Chester, I suppose, although the other way around. It's around a golf course and you need either a brave jockey or a thick one!"

On his chances of a fruitful trip, he added: "We could have two winners as I fancy Ochos Rios and Sheer Intensity to win, while I expect Satchville Flyer and Herm to also run well.

"Whatever happens we're having a nice three-day break over there in beautiful weather, so what's not to like?"

There are five races – all handicaps – starting at 2.30pm, with the most valuable race being run over six furlongs.

Herm is joined in that five-runner £5,000 contest by the Appleby-trained It Must Be Faith and Doctor Parkes from the Lloyd-Beavis yard.
