'Big player' Gavin Sheehan out to enhance red-hot 31 per cent strike-rate with strong book of Hereford rides
Gavin Sheehan has been in red-hot form and looks to continue his fine run with four rides at Hereford on Tuesday.
Sheehan has been operating at a 31 per cent strike-rate in the last fortnight and teams up with Jamie Snowden, his main supplier of winners this season, on the card.
Their best chance of a winner could come in the 3m1f mares' handicap chase (4.10), as Spitfire Girl bids to make amends for her dramatic defeat at Ffos Las earlier this month. The six-year-old was demoted to second by the stewards for interference, and Snowden hopes she can avenge that turnover.
He said: "She's in good form and races quickly again after being very unlucky last time. It was a shame for all of us, especially the young lad riding her [Will Featherstone] that she got the race taken off her.
"But she escapes a penalty from that and goes off the same mark. If this doesn't come too soon and she gets the trip, then she should have a chance."
Spotlight comment
Passed the post first at Ffos Las nine days ago, on her chasing/seasonal debut, but was disqualified for causing interference and placed second; jumped right there and it's in her favour she returns to a right-handed track with cheekpieces back on (her hurdle win came at Taunton wearing the aid); will prove hard to beat if this doesn't come too soon
Sheehan and Snowden also team up with Francina (2.40), Lady Valentine (4.40) and Bellas Bridge (5.15) on the card. The duo also enjoyed Cheltenham Festival success earlier this year with Mares' Novices' Hurdle heroine You Wear It Well.
Snowden added: "Gavin's always been a great rider and he's showing that at that moment. It's good to have him as part of our team and he's a big player for us."
