1.50 Tramore: the one race you cannot afford to miss on Tuesday
New Year’s Day Early Bird Tickets at tramoreraces.ie Mares Handicap Hurdle | 2m5f | 4yo+ | RTV
Why is it interesting?
Successful in this race 12 months ago, Billy Lanigan and Danny Mullins will attempt to repeat the trick with Stucker Hill.
She may be without a win since landing this prize from rival Isabel’s Gold last season, but Stucker Hill has been running promising races in defeat, and her latest effort at Navan should tee her up nicely over a course and distance which she relishes.
There are any number of dangers in the line-up, including previous course winners Isabel's Gold, Ask Heather and recent winners Moyode Lady and Goulane Jessie.
What do the stats say?
Henry de Bromhead is based close to Tramore and usually leaves the venue with a winner or two. The Knockeen trainer has sent out eight winners in the last fortnight and has a level-stake profit of €25.84 for a €1 investment on all his 37 runners in that time.
That is a 22 per cent strike-rate and Una Lavandiere will attempt to maintain De Bromhead's strong run of form.
What the trainers say
Billy Lanigan, trainer of Stucker Hill
If she reproduces her effort from Navan last time I'd be hopeful she'd be good enough to win. That looked a very good handicap hurdle at Navan and hopefully that sort of form will leave her in with a big chance. We're hoping for the best. We've been a bit unlucky with a few of ours recently, so a change of luck would be great.
Shane Crawley, trainer of Dragon Houdini
The ground is a worry. She didn't handle the very heavy ground at Limerick. We're trying her in cheekpieces and hopefully that will spark her up a little.
Madeleine Tylicki, trainer of Liffeydale Dreamer
She had a nice break during the summer and has come back a lot stronger. I was very happy with her return at Thurles – she jumped very well and would have needed it. Her homework has been good since.
John Queally, trainer of Isabel's Gold
She's won and run well in defeat at the track, which is a positive, but she'll need to leave her recent form behind her if she's going to have a chance. We were disappointed with her at Punchestown.
