David Allan to miss big fixtures after picking up 15-day whip suspension

Jockey David Allan will miss Qipco British Champions Day and the Dubai Future Champions festival after he was suspended for 15 days under the whip totting-up rules.

Allan, who has ridden 73 winners this year and is on course to surpass his previous best of 76 victories, was referred to the BHA after incurring five whip suspensions in a six-month period.

In mitigation, Allan’s solicitor Rory Mac Neice highlighted that each of the rider’s infractions had triggered the minimum ban of two days and they amounted to “five hits too many out of 547 rides during the period”, with disciplinary panel chair Philip Curl agreeing that it was a “problem with counting” for Allan as much as anything.

Allan will be suspended from October 8-16 and October 18 with five further days deferred until December 18.
